The RiverFront

Omaha, Nebraska

The RiverFront, located in downtown Omaha, was a 72-acre redevelopment project that included the demolition and reconstruction of three downtown parks, Gene Leahy Mall, Heartland of America and Lewis and Clark Landing. New amenities, including custom play features, a performance pavilion, an all-season skating ribbon and a pedestrian bridge overlooking the Missouri River were constructed while reshaping the landscape and improving infrastructure to create a more accessible and engaging public space.

As the construction manager, Kiewit oversaw all aspects of the project while self-performing demolition, grading, utility, bridge and roadway work. By rebuilding this urban public space, Kiewit has helped create a lasting, vibrant gathering place that enhances Omaha’s connection to the Missouri River. This project, described by the Omaha World-Herald as “one of the most ambitious projects undertaken in downtown Omaha,” was opened a year ahead of schedule.
