Phoenix SkyTrain™ Phase 1A Phoenix SkyTrain™ Phase 1A

Phoenix SkyTrain™ Phase 1A

Phoenix, Arizona

As the seventh busiest airport in the U.S., the Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport serves over 40 million passengers a year and continues to grow. To accommodate increasing number of passengers, Kiewit and its JV partner were selected as the CMAR contractor to construct Phase 1A of the new Automated People Mover, or Phoenix SkyTrain™.

The Phoenix SkyTrain™ program is an intra-airport transit system that provides connections between numerous airport facilities, ultimately linking into the Valley’s Light Rail Transit System. This phase of the program includes the complete fixed facilities construction for the extension of the SkyTrain™ from just west of the Terminal 4 station through and including Terminal 3. Construction activities include at-grade and elevated guideways, three bridges, two post-tensioned box girders, one precast concrete bridge, and one elevated station with a connector bridge to Terminal 3. All work is being performed at both airside and landside.

The keys to success on the SkyTrain™ Phase 1A project include partnering and close coordination with airport operations personnel, the design team and airport stakeholders, along with accurate phasing, scheduling and GMP preparation.
