Montreal East Terminal Crude Upgrade Project

Montreal, Québec

Kiewit affiliate, Ganotec, performed upgrades at the Montreal East Terminal that enabled the facility to receive, store and expedite an additional 100,000 barrels per day of crude oil from the Enbridge 9B pipeline, by boat and truck. In addition to performing general construction, we were involved in the early design process and engineering work packages to provide constructability and pre-fabrication strategy efficiencies.

Our scope included the refurbishment of eight tanks, all over 100 feet in diameter; major wharf upgrades, including the installation of marine loading arms for crude oil; and the supply and installation of a truck loading facility for refined products. In addition, we built a pump station with three 3,500 horsepower vertical pumps weighing more than 70,000 pounds. We fabricated, transported and assembled two large modules for the pump stations at our yard in Montreal, Quebec.

With almost 200,000 manhours, the project had zero lost time incidents and recordables.
