Commerce City Refinery Odyssey Project

Kiewit subsidiary, TIC, was the general contractor for all major disciplines in the upgrade of this 90,000-barrel-per-day refinery. The project was designed to enable the production of low sulfur diesel fuel, improve the refinery’s environmental performance, enable the client to integrate a broader slate of crude oil products, including sour crude oil from the company’s Canadian oil sands production and to increase the ability to process bitumen used in asphalt production.

Major work included setting the 600-ton reactor unit and installing a sulfur recovery unit, an asphalt unit and a tail gas unit.
