Kiewit was selected to reconstruct the Glen Island Bridge, which connects Glen Island Park to the mainland in Westchester County, New York. To maintain continuous access throughout construction, a temporary bridge will be installed just north of the existing structure, minimizing impacts to park visitors and maritime traffic. Scope of work includes:
- Full replacement of the bridge deck, sidewalks, floorbeams, bearings, traffic barriers, fender system and railings
- Structural repairs to fascia girders and plaza elements
- Modernization of mechanical systems including span locks, drive machinery, trunnions and dewatering components
- Electrical upgrades such as a new submarine cable, control systems, CCTV, MCC, MDP and generator
- Renovation of the control house’s lower level and installation of a new sanitary sewer line
- Roadway resurfacing and implementation of traffic control measures
The project enhances safety, reliability and long-term resilience while preserving public access to this popular recreational destination.
