Kiewit teams across North America have earned 12 2026 Associated General Contractors of America (AGC) National Awards, recognizing excellence in leadership, project delivery, safety and collaboration across a wide range of markets.

Cass Sobek – 30 Crossing

Leading this year’s recognition is Project Sponsor Cass Sobek, who received the 2026 Bowen Prize for Great Builders for his leadership on the 30 Crossing project in Arkansas. One of the state’s largest infrastructure investments, the project transformed a critical corridor carrying more than 133,000 vehicles per day. Under Sobek’s leadership, the team delivered the project ahead of schedule while advancing workforce development, supporting 63 staff promotions and helping transition 13 craft professionals into staff roles. The team also maintained a strong safety record, logging more than 1.92 million work hours with only one lost-time incident.

“The 30 Crossing team was exceptional. From ARDOT and our joint venture partner Massman to our designer Burns & McDonnell and team members from across four different parts of Kiewit, this project brought together an incredible level of talent and collaboration. It was a privilege to work alongside so many dedicated people to deliver a project that will benefit Arkansas communities for years to come.” – Cass Sobek

The 30 Crossing project was also recognized in the Highway and Transportation category for projects over $100 million. Delivered under a design-build model, the program replaced the I-30 Arkansas River Bridge, improved interstate connections and enhanced pedestrian and bicycle access, achieving substantial completion more than seven months ahead of schedule.

Federal Way Link Extension

The Federal Way Link Extension received the Marvin M. Black Excellence in Partnering and Collaboration Award for civil projects over $20 million, highlighting a strong partnership-driven approach on a complex, multi-jurisdictional transit program. The $1.7 billion design-build extends the light rail 7.8 miles through four cities. Through a structured partnering framework, the team secured more than 350 permits and advanced 53 alternative technical concepts that generated approximately $70 million in savings.

“This recognition reflects the commitment, collaboration and problem-solving of hundreds of dedicated professionals who contributed to the Federal Way Link Extension over the past seven years. I’m incredibly proud of the team and our partners for staying focused on safety, quality and delivering long-term value for the communities this project will serve.” – Kiewit Area Manager Kevin Rozendaal overseeing the project.

South Central Extension/Downtown Hub

In Phoenix, the South Central Extension/Downtown Hub project earned recognition in the Construction Management: Civil category after expanding Valley Metro’s light rail system by 5.5 miles and introducing the city’s first two-line system. Completed one year ahead of its federal grant schedule, the project created more than 5,200 jobs and awarded approximately $100 million to local firms. The team also supported surrounding communities through a business assistance program that provided more than 270 grants totaling $1.58 million, along with additional contributions to corridor nonprofits.

“It was great to work alongside such a strong Kiewit team and incredibly rewarding to help deliver a project that will serve the Phoenix community for years to come.” – Kiewit Project Sponsor Chris Chaffee

Joslyn Art Museum Addition and Renovation

Kiewit’s building team was also recognized for the Joslyn Art Museum Addition and Renovation in Omaha. The project added a 42,000 square foot expansion called the Rhonda & Howard Hawks Pavilion and renovated more than 100,000 square feet of existing space, requiring careful coordination to protect artwork while maintaining partial operations.

Several awards highlight the role Kiewit teams play in emergency response. The US-50 Emergency Repairs project in Colorado was recognized in AGC’s first Rapid Response category after structural issues forced the closure of a key corridor. The team mobilized within days, implemented around-the-clock operations and safely reopened the route ahead of peak travel.

SR 81 and SR 107 Emergency Bridge Reconstruction

In Tennessee, the SR 81 and SR 107 Emergency Bridge Reconstruction project restored two critical crossings over the Nolichucky River following Hurricane Helene. Delivered under a progressive design-build contract, the team completed the work in just 7.5 months, ahead of schedule. The team also contributed more than $200,000 to local recovery efforts, supporting families rebuilding after the storm.

I-15/Tropicana Interchange

The I-15/Tropicana Interchange project in Las Vegas was recognized for its design-build delivery, transforming one of the region’s busiest corridors while maintaining traffic volumes of up to 300,000 vehicles per day. Through 14 alternative technical concepts, the team reduced the schedule by 15 weeks and achieved $23 million in savings.

Additional AGC National Award Recognitions

Additional AGC National Award winners reflect the extent of Kiewit’s work.

The Repair Lima Wharf project at Naval Base Guam restored critical berthing space supporting U.S. Navy operations while maintaining zero lost-time incidents.

In Florida, the BAE Jacksonville Ship Repair complex expanded shipyard capacity and supports long-term maritime and defense operations.

Merit awards were also received for Kiewit Hall at the University of Nebraska–Lincoln, a new academic facility supporting engineering education, and the Redmond Technology Station Pedestrian Bridge in Washington, which improves multimodal connectivity and access across a major corridor.

Across each of these projects, the recognition reflects the people behind the work. From delivering complex infrastructure to responding in moments of urgency and supporting local communities, these teams demonstrate a shared commitment to safety, collaboration and doing the job right.
