Weeks Marine, a Kiewit Corporation subsidiary, completed a large-scale beach restoration project along nine miles of the Ponte Vedra Beach shoreline in St. Johns County, Florida. Additional scope included:

  • Placement of 2 million cubic yards of sand dredged from a federally permitted offshore borrow area to rebuild storm-damaged dunes and berms
  • Restoration of the dune system to enhance storm protection for upland infrastructure and improve long-term coastal resilience
  • Installation of native vegetation, including sea oats and other stabilizing plants, to support dune preservation and habitat creation
  • Placement of post-and-rope fencing and signage to guide pedestrian activity and protect sensitive areas
  • 24/7 dredging and sand shaping operations using heavy equipment to meet environmental and seasonal constraints
  • Daily inspections by trained environmental monitors to ensure protection of sea turtles and shorebirds, including nest relocation and shielded lighting protocols

The $38.6 million project was funded through a combination of state legislative grants and county contributions. It improves storm readiness, enhances wildlife habitat and supports recreational access for residents and visitors alike.
