FREEPORT LNG RESTORATION CONSTRUCTION

FREEPORT LNG RESTORATION CONSTRUCTION

Freeport, Texas

Kiewit was contracted to engineer, design, procure, construct and provide commissioning assistance for the restart of the Freeport liquified natural gas (LNG) facility after it was damaged in an incident in June of 2022.

Kiewit’s scope of work included the investigation and inspection, demolition, disposal, remediation and replacement of process valves and piping, structural steel, civil structures, instrumentation, fire and gas detection, and electrical systems damaged due to the incident.

Kiewit worked on this project in phases to restore the facility to its original operating capacity. The first phase included strategically working to restore the facility to partially operational as soon as possible while operating in accordance with regulatory standards set forth by the Pipeline & Hazard Materials Safety Administration (PHMSA) and the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC). The additional phases focused on sourcing commodities and refurbishing components damaged during the incident, ultimately installing the sourced goods and returning the facility to 100% of nameplate operating capacity.
