Kiewit Offshore Services, Ltd. refurbished a decommissioned floating production unit by replacing the existing topsides, the production deck and processing facilities above the hull, with a new 8,500-ton structure integrated with the existing hull to prepare the facility for renewed offshore service.
Scope included removal and demolition of the original topsides, fabrication and installation of the new structure, installation of new equipment, piping and electrical systems, and construction of a new mezzanine level. Major quantities included 60,000 linear feet of pipe, 265,000 linear feet of electrical cable and 3,500 tons of equipment.
The work was completed at Kiewit Offshore Services and centered on removing the existing module and integrating the newly fabricated topsides with the hull. The completed unit has a production capacity of 60,000 barrels of oil and 40 million cubic feet of natural gas per day.
Today, the Salamanca floating production unit is deployed in 6,400 feet of water in the Gulf of Mexico, where it supports oil and gas production.
