Kiewit was selected to lead the terrestrial (underground) construction activity for the Champlain Hudson Power Express (CHPE) HVDC route, including the converter station in Astoria, Queens, New York. The scope includes approximately 146 miles of 400kV terrestrial HVDC line in support of public policy requirements to reduce greenhouse gas emissions in one of America’s largest cities. The full project provides 1,250 MW of hydro energy from Quebec traveling across 339 miles of terrestrial and submarine cable into New York City.
