Weeks Marine, a Kiewit Corporation subsidiary, is delivering the first heavy construction component of the Hudson Tunnel Project for the Gateway Development Commission. The design-build scope includes modifying and stabilizing a 1,200-foot section of soil in the shallow area of the Hudson River near the Manhattan shoreline to prepare for tunnel boring operations. The scope includes:

  • Geophysical and bathymetric surveys to assess riverbed conditions
  • Removal of obstructions and installation of a steel pipe pile and sheet pile combi wall containment system
  • Execution and verification of ground improvement methods to support tunnel boring
  • Environmental monitoring and compliance throughout construction

Construction is expected to be completed in 2027. The work will create stable soil conditions for future tunneling.
