Kiewit completed this $58 million project to reconstruct a 47-mile-long rail line between San Francisco and San Jose in May 2001. Crews worked 24-hour shifts between Friday evenings and Monday mornings to minimize disruptions to the 68 daily trains.
This $486 million design-build project includes final design and construction of 11.5 miles of double light rail main track, 15 bridges, and a maintenance and operations facility. The project begins in Pasadena in the middle of the Interstate 210 freeway and runs to Citrus College in Azusa, CA.
The rehabilitation of eight segments of catenary lines from New Rochelle to Sunnyside Yard included installing 1.5 million pounds of miscellaneous and structural steel to support 15 miles of registered track. Crews also installed 132 new structures around bridges to make the wire meet the track's curve criteria.
Kiewit completed the Amtrak Oakland Maintenance Facility construction in 2004. The $53 million project involved site work, construction of a fuel area and three buildings — a 52,439-square-foot maintenance shop, a service and inspection area, and a train washer facility that has a 300-foot-long rinse slab and load test enclosure.
As a result of a value engineering initiative, Kiewit served as construction manager and general contractor for this $19.5 million project. Work on Amtrak's Pacific Northwest Maintenance Facility involved additional measures to keep some 67,000 Seattle Seahawks fans safe while they trekked across the project's location on their way to Seahawks Stadium.
From 1993 to 2002, crews completed four contracts totaling more than $64 million for the DART Light Rail Starter System and the North Central and North Eastern Extensions. The main scope of work involved constructing the train control, central control and communication systems. Crews also installed and tested an automatic block signal system for more than 44 miles of double track. System elements included automatic highway crossing warnings, train stops, and train-to-wayside communications.
The Metro Gold Line transports thousands of daily passengers to Los Angeles, Chinatown, Lincoln Heights, Highland Park, South Pasadena and Pasadena. As part of the 13.7-mile extension of the rail line, crews installed the auto tensioned overhead contract system, traction power substations and the transit signal and communications systems.
This $27 million contract provided electrical work for the 5.8-mile extension of San Diego's Mission Valley East light rail transit system. Crews were responsible for the overhead traction power system, traction power substations, railroad block signaling system and equipment, and various communications systems.
