Deer Valley Water Treatment Plant Reservoir Replacement

Phoenix, Arizona

Kiewit was contracted to demolish the existing hopper bottom and metal-roofed reservoir; construct a new 20-million-gallon cast-in-place reservoir with tie-ins to the existing 96-inch influent and effluent box conduits; and install sampling system piping, common influent flow meters, level sensor, security measures, associated conduits and control wiring. An underdrain leak detection system with associated pump stations and controls was also installed to detect reservoir leakage and to protect the structure from subsurface water pressure.

Kiewit also worked with the city and engineer to provide full pre-construction services including cost models, constructability reviews and scheduling analysis throughout the design. Construction occurred during active plant operations and required close coordination with both security personnel and plant operations staff.
