Nebraska Medicine Lot 6 Parking Structure

Omaha, Nebraska

Nebraska Medicine contracted the Design-Build team of Kiewit Building Group and Leo A Daly to design and build a new seven-level, 735-stall parking garage on the footprint of the existing surface of Parking Lot 6. The team was given 14 months to design and construct the project.

The new Parking Lot 6 garage is rectangular (325 ft long x 116 ft wide), and uses a double-helix ramp system with one-way traffic and crossover locations where sloping decks intersect, which was deemed the most efficient method of moving cars in and out of the structure during peak times for staff. There are two elevators in the south tower to access each level, and a pedestrian bridge connects the Parking Lot 6 garage to the older Parking Lot 5 garage.

Significant weather delays hampered progress on the project, however expert project management and innovative use of 3D modeling ultimately streamlined the job schedule and allowed the project to be completed well under budget.
