With this project, the Nebraska Medical Center merged two facilities into a single state-of the-art healthcare center. The Center contains four core functional areas: emergency, surgery, radiology and a neonatal intensive care unit (NICU). The combined capabilities of the facility make it the largest emergency department in the Midwest.
The Solider Family Care Center is a three-story healthcare facility that is connected to an existing hospital via a two-level connector. The center provides spacious examination and treatment rooms for physical therapy, occupational therapy, orthopedics, podiatry, chiropractic, social work, family medicine, pediatrics and dental, as well as portions of radiology and pharmacy.
The Veterans Affairs Outpatient Clinic is a $67 million 190,000-square-foot facility situated on 13 acres directly adjacent to Elmendorf Air Force Base Hospital's central plant and corridor, which is connected to the new facility. The facility was built under a Kiewit-led joint venture, and has more than 400 rooms, including outpatient surgery rooms; dental suites; surgery suite; ambulatory radiology department; laboratory; pharmacy; and audiology, primary care, mental health, specialty care, physical therapy, prosthetics other service areas.
The Nebraska Medical System Cancer Center is housed in a medical office building that was modified to meet the needs of a state-of-the-art cancer treatment center. Kiewit constructed an addition to the building which includes a radiation oncology department with linear accelerator vaults and areas for disease diagnosis, medical examination and infusion therapy.
The Bellevue Medical Center is a 265,000-square-foot facility designed and built to offer comprehensive patient services. A new medical office building located next to the main hospital added another 60,000 square feet to the project. It is the first full-service hospital in Bellevue, Neb. and was awarded LEED® Certification.
The $18-million Citizen and Immigration Services (CIS) Nebraska Service Center is a 144,000-square-foot, two-story office building completed under a design-build contract. CIS is LEED® Silver certified, and features a dual duct air distribution system which supplies fresh air continuously and separately from the conditioned air. The interior electrical system incorporates daylight harvesting along with motion and occupancy sensors to minimize consumption.
Built for the Alaska Department of Transportation and Public Facilities, the 134,000-square-foot Anchorage Sport Fish Hatchery is the largest enclosed sport fish hatchery in North America. The hatchery raises more species of cold water fish in recirculating aquaculture systems than any other sport fish production facility in the U.S. King and and silver salmon, rainbow trout, arctic char, lake trout and arctic grayling are raised in the hatchery and are then stocked into rivers and lakes throughout the south central region of Alaska.
The Government Services Administration - U.S. Citizenship and Immigration (GSA CIS) Denver District Office is a 45,876-square-foot building featuring a core and shell, precast superstructure with an architectural precast exterior, ribbon windows and a segmented curtain wall. GSA CIS was designed to meet LEED® Silver guidelines and features including high-energy-performance curtain walls and window systems to minimize solar heat gain and maximize daylight; a high-performance mechanical system utilizing ground source heat pump and energy recovery units; native landscaping materials that require no irrigation system; and locally manufactured materials for structure, exterior skin and interior finishes.
The Air Force Weather Agency headquarters is a $27 million, four-story, 188,000-square-foot data center and office building built for the U.S. Army Corp of Engineers to accommodate the Air Force’s global weather functions. The building is LEED® Gold certified, and features low-wattage lamps, electronic ballasts and occupy sensors. The building was carefully placed to optimize sun angles, and uses sunshades, light shelves and high-efficiency glazing to enhance window performance.
The $56 million Base Realignment and Closer Phase III (BRAC III) project for was comprised of six separate projects for the U.S. Navy and involved renovating and constructing 440,000 square feet of base structures. New construction included a tactical support facility housing a training center and flight simulator; helicopter pads; and training and hazardous waste facilities. All work was performed while minimizing impacts to the Navy's existing adjacent operations.
