Lili’uokalani Community Center

Kiewit partnered with the Liliʻuokalani Trust to transform the Liliʻuokalani Community Center into a dynamic, youth-focused facility designed to foster culture, creativity, technology and exploration.

The eight-story, 165,000-square-foot facility features a wide range of flexible, innovative spaces including a dance studio, production theater, music rooms, martial arts and aerobics spaces, maker studios and more. A fully enclosed rooftop gymnasium, accessible by a large glass elevator, provides a signature feature for wellness and recreation.

Renovation work included a full interior demolition, structural upgrades and the replacement of the existing exterior with a modern curtain wall and synthetic stone rainscreen system. The complete interior build-out incorporated state-of-the-art technology, acoustical construction and specialized treatments.

Collaboration played a central role in project delivery. Through a design-assist process, the team conducted 25 design and task force meetings during schematic and design development, ultimately realizing significant value engineering savings for the client. Proactive planning also addressed unprecedented procurement challenges through early material procurement package releases.
