Children's Hospital Specialty Pediatric Center - Omaha, Neb.
The Specialty Pediatric Center is the third major project Kiewit has built for Children's Hospital in the past 10 years. This $46 million, 135,000-square-foot, five-story addition was built to house more than 30 pediatric-focused clinics, including cardiology, oncology, neurology, allergy, asthma and dental.
In addition to the clinical facilities, the building contains a gym area and individual treatment rooms for children undergoing physical, occupational and speech therapies. Kiewit also built a three-level, 300-stall parking garage, which functions as the base of the building.
The job site location presented several challenges. It was located in a tight construction site, with a working hospital on one side and Omaha's busiest street on the other. The project team coordinated closely with hospital and city officials throughout construction and developed a phased construction plan that minimized impacts on pedestrians, hospital employees, visitors and patients. This phased approach was a success and allowed Kiewit to complete the project on time and on budget, with no impacts to hospital operations. With the completion of this facility, Children's Hospital is able to meet the healthcare needs of nearly 60,000 children annually.
