To decrease the cost of hydroelectric power and increase the demand for service, Kiewit completed this bid-build contract to expand the Healey Falls Generating Station. Located about 15 kilometers north of Campbellford, the generating station includes a new unit in a spare bay inside the existing hydroelectric power plant once complete.
Kiewit teamed with the owner early in the Langley Gulch Power Plant development to create a baseline, self-build proposal that was evaluated against outside competitors. Kiewit worked closely with the owner to develop a cost-competitive project.
Working at a depth of 80 feet, crews from Kiewit Pacific Co. pumped groundwater from the excavation site at a rate of 14 million gallons per day to construct New Natomas and South River Pumping Stations. The scope of work at each site involves excavation support, dewatering, constructing new below-grade and at-grade concrete structures and installing mechanical equipment.
The J. James Exon Regional FBI Headquarters is a multi-building, secure campus that includes a 97,800-square-foot office building, 49,400-square-foot parking garage and a 14,500-square-foot annex building. The main four-story building achieved LEED® Gold certification and incorporated numerous sustainable design features.
The $56 million Base Realignment and Closer Phase III (BRAC III) project for was comprised of six separate projects for the U.S. Navy and involved renovating and constructing 440,000 square feet of base structures. New construction included a tactical support facility housing a training center and flight simulator; helicopter pads; and training and hazardous waste facilities. All work was performed while minimizing impacts to the Navy's existing adjacent operations.
The Caterpillar CLAAS manufacturing facility contains a 165,000-square-foot assembly area and 35,000 square feet of office space. The facility is a pre-fabricated metal building with precast concrete exterior that allows an abundance of natural light into the assembly area through north facing glazing. The roof is constructed of standing seam metal and is configured to allow for no interior roof drains or downspouts. The product display area contains a full height curtain wall system to maximize the views of products at night.
Home to the Mesa State Mavericks college football team, Stocker Stadium in Grand Junction, Colo. is the most highly used field on the Western Slope, hosting as many as four football games a weekend. Kiewit also constructed new high hump, long jump and triple jump areas with polyurethane track to complete the facility.
For more than three decades, Kiewit has been constructing projects for the Vancouver Skytrain light rail system. Most recently, crews constructed several portions of guideway and elevated guidway on the Lougheed, Front Street and Grandview segments.
Kiewit Southern Co. was awarded the $11 million project to design and construct the Pembroke Pump Station. The team constructed an at-grade precast panel pump station, four 40-cubic-feet-per-second pumps with 30-inch-diameter expansion joints, back-flow gates and butterfly valves that are connected to a 64-inch-diameter steel header pipe.
