Kiewit Pacific Co. constructed the world's largest prestressed concrete tanks. The $86 million Hollywood Hills Quality Improvement Project consisted of two 30-million-gallon underground water storage tanks and a 1-mi.-long tunnel bypass system to provide safe drinking water for nearly 500,000 customers in the Hollywood area.
The Woodhouse renovations project involved the renovation and addition of multiple spaces at an auto dealership. The project included adding 3,500 square feet of showroom space, a 1,250 square foot parts receiving area and renovating a 40,000 square foot show room/office facility.
The Terra Nova Integrated Swivel Turnaround Project was a $75 million of contract critical importance to the client, as well as the Newfoundland Offshore Oil Industry. The project involved three months at Quayside repair and an upgrade of some of the key systems on board the Terra Nova FPSO, one of three producing installations located offshore Newfoundland.
PSE&G selected KHMA, a joint venture comprised of Kiewit Power Constructors, Henkels & McCoy, and Aldridge Electric, to construct the Bergen-Linden Corridor Overhead project. Designed to replace the existing double circuit 138kV transmission system from Bergen to Linden with a double circuit 345kV transmission system, the project will eliminate electric system capacity issues in northern New Jersey and provide better power quality in the region. PJM Interconnection determined the new transmission system was necessary to ensure reliable electric service, eliminate anticipated transmission constraints, and respond to PJM/Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) mandated infrastructure expansion. The KHMA team is responsible for removing the existing transmission lines and lattice structures, clearing, temporary access roads and bridges, erosion and sedimentation controls, foundation installation (drilled piers and vibratory caissons), steel pole erection, hardware and insulator installation, conductor, shield wire stringing, and fiber optic splicing.
This project consisted of renovating an existing 26,000 sq. ft., two-story building located in the heart of Omaha at 72nd and Dodge, which included a complete renovation of the interior space, all new mechanical and electrical systems, a new skin, an exterior media screen and a resurfaced parking lot.
A best-value selection process was used to select a Kiewit-led team to construct South Dakota's first design-build highway project. A 15-month construction window was established to minimize disruption on this 6.9-mile loop of Interstate 229. Despite one of the harshest winters in Sioux Falls' history, Kiewit finished 31 days ahead of schedule.
A Kiewit-led partnership completed its last phase of a six year contract with Cartier Wind Energy by erecting the last of a total of 354 GE 1.5MW SLE windmills, scattered throughout 4 different wind farms in the Gaspésie region: Baie-des-Sables, Anse-Ã -Valleau, Carleton and Gros-Morne.
A Kiewit-led joint venture completed the civil, mechanical and electrical design and construction of this $28.4 million 50-megawatt (MW) powerhouse. Throughout construction, the team emphasized the need to work toward a common goal by holding partnering sessions with project participants.
The Central Mesa Light Rail Extension Project is a Federally-funded project consisting of approximately 3.1 miles double track alignment extending from the Central Phoenix/East Valley LRT project’s eastern limits to an end of line station on Main Street between Olive and Ashland, Mesa.
In November 2007, Kiewit completed structural improvements to the Verrazano-Narrows Bridge, located at the mouth of Upper New York Bay. The $68 million project included removing aluminum anchorage access plates at the lower-level roadway and sealing the openings with concrete; installing steel maintenance doors; and installing shielding panels at the underside of the deck and on the main cable strands inside the anchorage walls.
