Kiewit partnered with Parsons to design and build the extension of A-25, Québec's first public-private partnership (PPP) project in the transportation market. The extension was built to improve public transportation between Montreal and the North Shore as well as provide an alternate route for freight transportation.
Kiewit completed the Benicia-Martinez Bridge in August 2007. The five-lane, 8,790-foot-long toll bridge carries northbound vehicles across the Carquinez Strait and connects the City of Benicia in Solano County and the City of Martinez in Contra Costa County. The bridge consists of 130 piles, 1,700-ton footings, 17 piers, 11 pier tables and 335 cast-in-place segments.
The Crooked River Gorge Bridge is the country's first segmentally cast, temporarily cable-stayed, single-span arch bridge. It features two lanes in each direction, as well as a center median. The arched, concrete structure is 535 feet long, 79 feet wide and spans 295 feet above the Crooked River.
The Texas Department of Transportation awarded the DFW Connector contract to a Kiewit-led joint venture. The $1.02 billion project scope included the development, design and construction of the 8.4-mile initial phase of the ultimate 14.4-mile project. The project reduces congestion at the confluence of two of the area's most heavily traveled highways and ease access into DFW International Airport. Crews rebuilt portions of four highways, two interchanges and five bridges, ultimately doubling the capacity of the existing highway corridor.
This $347 million replaced and widened portions of the 7,900-foot long Hood Canal Bridge — the world’s longest saltwater bridge. Kiewit-General, a joint venture, widened the bridge’s superstructure and replaced the concrete approach structures, steel transition spans, drawspan and east-half pontoons.
In 1997, a Kiewit-led joint venture began work on UDOT's Interstate 15 reconstruction, a $1.3-billion design-build project. Demolishing, designing and rebuilding a 16-mile stretch of freeway with 142 bridges, the team completed the job months ahead of schedule and in time for the 2002 Winter Olympics.
The single largest contract in Caltrans history, the “Skyway Segment” replaced over 1.2 miles of the bridge's eastern span. Composed of precast sections, the new span rests atop some of the longest and largest diameter bridge piles ever driven in the Bay Area. The work, performed by a Kiewit-led joint venture, is a key part of a major seismic retrofit program.
This finance-design-build-operate project was one of the first public-private partnerships to reach financial close within the North American transportation market. Work involved upgrades to over 130 kilometres of the highway between Vancouver and Whistler, British Columbia, for safety and mobility improvements.
The $629 million Tacoma Narrows Bridge is the first long-span suspension bridge to be constructed in the United States since 1964. Completed in July 2007, the 5,413-foot-long bridge includes a high occupancy vehicle traffic lane; a separated bicycle/pedestrian walkway; an 8,000-square-foot toll plaza building; and configurations for a future secondary roadway or transit deck.
Nearly 2 miles of Interstate 25 and Interstate 40 interchange were reconstructed and expanded under this $237 million contract. As part of the project, 55 bridges were built including eight new precast segmental fly-over bridges, 33 new concrete girder bridges and four structural steel girder bridges. Ten bridges were rehabilitated.
