The Interstate 5 (I-5) North Coast Corridor (NCC) Program is a 27-mile long project that proposes improvements to I-5, coastal rail and transit enhancements, environmental protection and coastal access improvements over 4 phases within the next 40 years.
Phase 1 of 4 for the NCC program represents a 14 freeway mile, 4.2 rail mile, $606 million dollar investment on the designated corridor of the future. This phase will include one high occupancy vehicle (HOV) lane in each direction from Manchester Avenue to SR 78; the replacement of MacKinnon Avenue Overcrossing; the construction of a direct access ramp (DAR) and park n’ ride at Manchester Avenue; the replacement of San Elijo and Batiquitos Lagoon highway bridges; construction of sound walls on private property; and provide better connectivity for bicyclists by construction portions of the North Coast Bike Trail.
Caltrans and SANDAG are anticipated to release the CM/GC Request for Qualifications for general contractors in the spring of 2014, with selection and Pre-Construction Services beginning early summer 2014.
Anticipated Phase 1 construction start is expected by spring of 2015 with completion in 2019.
Kiewit Infrastructure West Co. is committed to assisting available qualified SBEs to compete and participate in this project as subcontractors, material suppliers, and equipment suppliers.
