Metro Gold Line – Pasadena, CA

Southern California recently celebrated the completion of its latest rail transit segment, thanks to the July 2003 on-time opening of the 13.7-mi.-long Metro Gold Line rail project connecting Los Angeles to Pasadena. The $178 million design-build project required working in an extremely narrow corridor and involved building a pedestrian bridge, stations, at-grade crossings, seismic retrofits, and several cut-and-cover tunnels.

LAX Taxiway C – Los Angeles, CA

Working in the middle of one of the busiest taxiways at the world's fourth largest airport, within 500 ft. of departing aircraft, and around live utilities were the major challenges on this $40 million project. The project involved realigning Taxiway C and lengthening Sepulveda Boulevard, an adjacent six-lane highway.

Caltrain Ponderosa – San Francisco to San Jose, CA

Kiewit completed the 26-month reconstruction of this $58 million, 47-mi.-long rail line in May 2001. Crews worked 24-hour shifts between Friday evenings and Monday mornings to minimize disruptions to the 68 daily trains.

Lomas Santa Fe – San Diego, CA

Needed for safety and traffic improvements, this $17.7 million rail grade separation project involved excavating a massive 6,000-ft.-long by 28-ft.-deep trench in Solana Beach, California. The two-year project included construction of retaining walls, utility relocation, track installation, and erection of new platforms and bridge structures.
