Internship/Co-op Training Areas:

Field Operations

Field operations include the basics of construction, from project structure and organization to project administration. Interns gain an increased understanding of general construction procedures and computer applications.

Estimating and Cost Tracking

Attention to project details is the cornerstone of success. This includes quantity take-offs, production rates, scheduling, bidding, and computer applications.

Engineering Planning and Operations

Students work with an experienced engineer to set up control budgets, write subcontracts, evaluate costs and work with owners, designers, subcontractors and suppliers.

Throughout training, interns/co-ops are monitored by the District Engineer and assigned an immediate supervisor who provides hands-on experience and guidance. Immediate supervisors complete short summary sheets on intern/co-op performance in various areas. These summaries provide a good reflection of student skills for annual reviews and consideration for full-time employment.

Exit interviews are conducted after each session to evaluate and determine if objectives and expectations were met by both parties. The exit interview for third-year interns/co-ops also includes the discussion of career opportunities within our company.
