Folsom Dam Bridge

Folsom Dam Bridge - Folsom, CA

After Sept. 11, the Department of Homeland Security closed the Folsom Dam Road, causing serious traffic congestion in the small town of Folsom. Kiewit Pacific Co., a subsidiary of Kiewit Corporation, is constructing the Folsom Dam Bridge to bypass Folsom Dam Road and accommodate the 26,000 cars that will use the bridge per day.

Kiewit is constructing a new roadway between Folsom-Auburn Road and East Natoma Street, which is south of the Folsom Dam. The scope of the work involves constructing about 9,000 linear feet of new four-lane roadway. Crews will also construct an almost 1,000-foot-long bridge using cast-in-place segments, two soundwalls, four retaining walls, a box culvert and a bicycle/pedestrian lane parallel to the roadway.

To complete the project, Kiewit is projected to use 13,000 cubic yards of concrete, 3.2 million pounds of rebar and 38,000 tons of asphalt concrete pavement. In addition, one million cubic yards of earth is expected to be moved in the process.
