Pine Bend II - Rosemount, MN

Kiewit was awarded the $57 million Pine Bend II project as part of a larger $350 million project to produce ultralow-sulfur diesel fuels and convert diesel fuel to gasoline, allowing Flint Hills Resources to meet growing market demands.

The scope included major mechanical work for an ultralow-sulfur diesel fuel unit, including setting and installing 128 pieces of equipment, 72,000 linear feet of pipe and nearly 900 tons of structural steel. Major quantities included 17,985 square feet of equipment fireproofing, 500 cubic yards of area paving, four reciprocating compressors, 23 exchangers, 33 air coolers or fin fans and 42 vessels.

The project employed about 500 personnel during the peak construction period. Completed in April 2006, the project was completed on time, which allowed Flint Hills Resources meet commitments for ultralow-sulphur diesel fuel.
