Imperial Oil’s Kearl Oil Sands project is located 70 kilometers north of Fort McMurray, Alberta, in the Athabasca oil sands region. In May of 2009, a Kiewit-led joint venture was granted permission to commence on this project to install deep undergrounds piping as part of the larger Kearl Oil Sands Project.

A critical component of the overall schedule involves the completion of 740,000 cubic meters of trench excavation and the installation of 27,000 lineal meters of deep undergrounds piping. In order to secure the pipe, the team is welding more than 20,000 diameter inches of pipe.
