BRAC III

BRAC III - Kaneohe, HI

Completed in July 1999, the Base Realignment and Closure, Phase III (BRAC III) consisted of six separate projects consolidated into a $56 million contract. The scope of work performed by Kiewit Pacific Co., a subsidiary of Kiewit Corporation, involved renovating and constructing 440,000 sq. ft. structures and facilities. New construction included a tactical support facility housing a training center and flight simulator, helicopter pads, and training and hazardous waste facilities.

As part of the hangar renovation, crews installed and retrofitted the mechanical systems, including HVAC, sheet metal, plumbing and fire protection. Other aspects of the project involved upgrading electrical, mechanical and sprinkler systems; revamping site power and sewer utilities; and reconfiguring taxiways for aircraft relocations. In addition, crews installed an electrical substation, switchgear and an emergency power generator for airfield operations. All work was performed while minimizing impacts to active base operations.
