In December 2000, Mass. Electric Construction Co., a subsidiary of Kiewit Corporation, was awarded two contracts totaling more than $30 million for the electrical work at Gillette Stadium, home to New England Patriots football and New England Revolution soccer teams. The main scope of work involved constructing the power, lighting, voice and data systems, and above-ground electrical infrastructure for this $325 million, 68,000-seat stadium.

Additional work included installing the 15KV line-up of outdoor switchgear and a 2000KV generator for emergency power systems. Five substations, ranging in capacity from 15KV to 480V, power each quadrant of the stadium and additional buildings. At the project's peak, the team had over 200 electricians.

Major quantities for this 16-month project included 310 panelboards, 900,000 ft. of raceway, 4 million ft. of wire and cable, 11,000 interior light fixtures, 728 1,500-watt sports light fixtures, and electrical wiring of the 6,000-sq.-ft. New England Patriots' team store.

The most distinct part of the project was the lighting control system, which automatically controls all stadium lighting through the facility's command center.
