Qwest Center Omaha covers over 422 acres, or approximately 100 city blocks. Completed in September 2003 by Kiewit Construction Company, a subsidiary of Kiewit Corporation, the $187-million project involved building a 490,000-sq.-ft. convention center and a 450,000-sq.-ft. arena.

The scope of work included a 194,000-sq.-ft. exhibit hall; a 30,000-sq.-ft. main ballroom; a 42,500-sq.-ft. atrium; a 10,000-sq.-ft. kitchen; and additional meeting rooms, breakout areas, and kitchen support areas on the upper level.

The arena is designed to accommodate approximately 14,700 people for hockey; 16,000 for basketball; and up to 17,000 for concerts and other activities. Thirty-two luxury suites are located throughout the arena to accommodate private groups and other corporate functions.

Kiewit also constructed a four-story, 511-stall, 180,000-sq.-ft. parking garage. The garage is connected to the arena side of the facility, and additional parking is located within walking distance.
