Market Experience
From exploration to refining, Kiewit has provided construction services to the oil and gas industry for nearly a half century. We are proud to be a partner with international, U.S. and Canadian oil and gas firms working to develop the world's energy sources. Through our subsidiary Kiewit Offshore Services, Ltd., we fabricate large, complex offshore oil production platforms at our 400-acre fabrication facility in Ingleside, Texas. We've built state-of-the-art fixed and floating structures for most of the world's major oil companies. We have extensive experience in the fabrication, erection and construction of offshore jackets and decks; concrete gravity base structures; oil and gas processing units; well heads, flow lines and flow stations; pipelines and compressor stations; and enhanced oil-recovery facilities.
Kiewit Energy Group Inc., a Kiewit subsidiary, was formed to focus on three main market sectors: petroleum refining, oil sands opportunities in Canada, and liquefied natural gas projects. With offices in Houston and Calgary, Kiewit Energy Group's mission is to provide on-time, within-budget project delivery for its energy sector clients. For the last 15 years, Kiewit has completed more than 150 projects for the oil and gas industry valued at nearly $1.9 billion.
White Rose Topsides St. John's and Marystown, Newfoundland
With a peak employment of more than 1,000 personnel, a Kiewit-led joint venture is engineering, procuring and constructing this 18-module, 11,000-tonne topsides at its Newfoundland fabrication facilities. The topsides will be integrated with a hull and turret for a projected “sail away” completion in July 2005.
Hibernia Gravity Base Structure St. John's, Newfoundland
Kiewit's expertise in organizing and executing complex slipforming operations was needed on the construction of this offshore, oil-production platform after the original contractor fell behind schedule and over budget. A Kiewit joint venture constructed the concrete gravity base structure and fabricated and installed the topside mechanical works.
Newfoundland Transshipment Terminal – Whiffen Head, Newfoundland
The Newfoundland Transshipment Terminal serves as a crude oil transfer and storage facility servicing the Hibernia oil fields. The expansion added a second identical tanker dock and doubled the terminal's capacity by allowing two ships to berth at the same time. The new berth consists of a loading platform and berthing, and mooring dolphins to tie up the tanker.
Irving Oil Refinery Expansion – Saint John, New Brunswick
Construction of the world's largest residue fluid catalytic cracking unit was completed in the fall of 2000. This $1 billion project included 43,000 meters of above-ground piping, 29,000 meters of steam tracing, and installation of more than 100 large pieces of mechanical equipment. Working within tight quarters above ground, the team delivered the project on time and under budget.
