Marine projects demand contractors who provide special expertise and equipment for fast completion of freight handling and shipping centers and other types of waterfront construction. Kiewit and its subsidiary General Construction Company are proven performers, having completed a variety of ports, terminals, piers, docks, wharves, bulkheads, breakwaters and other marine work along coastal and inland waterways.

Over the last seven years, Kiewit has performed construction services on more than 50 marine contracts totaling more than $2.5 billion in contract revenue.

Hood Canal Bridge – Port Gamble, WA

Kiewit-General is rebuilding the world’s longest saltwater floating bridge. The 7,900-foot-long, $347 million Hood Canal Bridge, scheduled for a summer 2009 completion, involves widening the bridge’s superstructure and replacing the concrete approach structures, steel transition spans, drawspan and east-half pontoons.

POLA Berth 302-305 Container Wharf – Los Angeles, CA

This container wharf – the largest in the country – is more than 4,000-ft. long and can accommodate up to four container ships simultaneously. The project received a 1997 Marvin M. Black Award for Excellence in Partnering.

Everett Naval Station Carrier Pier – Everett, WA

The $56 million Puget Sound Carrier Support Complex project included construction of a 1,680-ft.-long by 126-ft.-wide carrier pier and a 470-ft.-long by 144-ft.-wide marginal wharf for escort vessels. Ship service utilities included steam, potable water, sanitary sewer, and shore power electrical service and communications lines.

Pier Replacement – Keyport, WA

A design-build team led by General Construction Company constructed this $6.2 million new berthing facility ahead of schedule. It was the first design-build pier completed in the U.S. Navy's history. Work included a temporary mooring, relocation of the Acoustic Testing Facility, and demolition of two timber piers and the fixed boathouse.
