Kiewit and its subsidiary Mass. Electric Construction Co. are active in all aspects of electrical construction, specializing in mass transit, railroads, hi-tech production facilities, semi-conductors, pharmaceuticals, electrical power generating and distribution facilities, intelligent transportation systems and communications networks. Kiewit owns and operates one of the largest fleets of equipment developed specifically for the electrical, line construction and transit industries. Electrical services include consultation, life-cycle planning, procurement, construction testing and start-up, instruction, and maintenance of electrical components and systems for transportation authorities and utilities, as well as industrial, healthcare, commercial and institutional facilities throughout the United States.
Over the last four years, Kiewit has performed electrical services for more than 120 projects totaling over $730 million in contract revenue. We are capable of providing a wide range of delivery options, from installation and construction management to design-build or design-assist.
Hellgate Line Catenary Modifications – Bronx and Westchester Counties, NY
The rehabilitation of eight segments of catenary lines from New Rochelle to Sunnyside Yard includes installing 1.5 million pounds of miscellaneous and structural steel to support 15 miles of registered track. Crews will also install 132 new structures around bridges to make the wire meet the track's curve criteria.
Gillette Stadium – Foxboro, MA
In December 2000, Mass. Electric Construction Co. was selected to perform the electrical system work for the $325 million, 68,000-seat Gillette Stadium. With two contracts totaling over $30 million, the project involved constructing the stadium's power, lighting, voice and data systems, including above-ground electrical infrastructure.
DART Electrical Work – Dallas, TX
In early 1993, Mass. Electric Construction Co. was awarded the first of four contracts for the DART light rail starter system and the North Central and North Eastern extensions. Totaling over $64 million, Mass. Electric's portion of the work involved constructing the train control, central control and communications systems.
Mission Valley East LRT – San Diego, CA
Under this $27 million contract, Mass. Electric Construction Co. provided electrical work for the 5.8 mi. extension of San Diego's Mission Valley East light rail transit system. Crews were responsible for the overhead traction power system, traction power substations, railroad block signaling system and equipment, and various communications systems.
