Bakersfield Wastewater Treatment Plant #3
The City of Bakersfield awarded Kiewit Pacific Co., a subsidiary of Kiewit Corporation, a $211 million project to upgrade the existing Bakersfield Wastewater Treatment Plant. To date, this project is the largest contract the City of Bakersfield has ever awarded.
Pine Tree Wind Farm
Kiewit Pacific Co. is constructing a $146 million project for the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power. Pine Tree Wind Farm will be the largest city-owned and operated wind farm in the U.S., and the wind farm will produce enough energy to power 56,000 homes.
Metro Gold Line
Southern California celebrated the completion of its rail transit segment, thanks to the July 2003 on-time opening of the 13.7-mi.-long Metro Gold Line rail project connecting Los Angeles to Pasadena. The $178 million design-build project required working in an extremely narrow corridor and involved building a pedestrian bridge, stations, at-grade crossings, seismic retrofits, and several cut-and-cover tunnels.
LAX Taxiway C
Working in the middle of one of the busiest taxiways at the world's fourth largest airport, within 500 ft. of departing aircraft, and around live utilities were the major challenges on this $40 million project. The project involved realigning Taxiway C and lengthening Sepulveda Boulevard, an adjacent six-lane highway.
Lomas Santa Fe
Needed for safety and traffic improvements, this $17.7 million rail grade separation project involved excavating a massive 6,000-ft.-long by 28-ft.-deep trench in Solana Beach, California. The two-year project included construction of retaining walls, utility relocation, track installation, and erection of new platforms and bridge structures.
South Bay Water Reclamation Plant
This $89 million project involved the construction of a 15-million-gallon-per-day water reclamation plant and process facilities for the 2.9 million people in the San Diego area. Just months after award, the client doubled the plant's capacity and selected the on-site Kiewit Pacific Co. team to handle the additional work.
