Jobs Done Well

The Estimating Services group of Kiewit Engineering Co. typically handles technically challenging work with tough schedules in unfamiliar areas. Estimating Services provides estimates for the operating districts of Kiewit as well as Kiewit-sponsored and non-sponsored joint ventures. Estimating Services' foremost purpose is providing an independent, thorough evaluation and risk analysis of a project's schedule, materials, equipment and manpower needs.

Hood Canal Bridge - Port Gamble, WA

The Hood Canal Bridge is the main economic transportation link between the Puget Sound and the Olympic Peninsula. This unique project called for the construction of new floating concrete pontoon roadway sections as well as new bridge approaches. The floating pontoons are being constructed in a sheet pile graving dock. A total of 50,000 cubic yards of structural concrete will be placed for this job. A temporary work trestle was constructed on the south side of the canal to facilitate the removal and replacement of the structural steel approach span.

Oakland Bay Bridge Skyway Segment - Oakland, CA

These twin precast segmental bridges will accommodate five lanes of traffic in each direction and a bike path on one side. Each bridge is 87 feet wide by 6000 feet long. KECo performed a complete estimate for the $1.2 billion project. KECo estimated the substructure, balanced cantilever and superstructure erection. We also estimated the setup of the precast yard and precasting of the 800-ton segments.

I-95 Sound Walls - Miami, FL

Estimating Services provided a complete estimate of schedule for the I-95 Sound Walls. Major quantities for this $70 million, A+B contract included one million square feet of cast-in-place sound wall forms, 42,000 cubic yards of concrete and 225,000 square feet of precast sound walls. All of the walls were located adjacent to the heavily traveled I-95. The majority of the work was performed at night due to the owner's traffic control requirements.
