Internships/Co-ops
Our Internship Program is designed to give you a snapshot of a full-time position at Kiewit Energy Canada. We offer paid internships that can last from four to sixteen months, which provide on-the-job training for all levels of college and university students. We offer a unique opportunity to gain real life, hands-on experience while you complete your education. This approach allows you to evaluate our organization and the construction field as a career choice. In turn, we are able to evaluate prospective employees.
We recruit for internship positions at several universities and colleges each year.
Positions are available for students pursuing the following majors:
- Mechanical Engineering
- Electrical Engineering
- Civil Engineering
- Engineering Technology
- Business Administration
Our internships are challenging and you can expect to be given the same responsibility as an entry level employee. You might be assigned to our District Office or Edmonton Module Yard and work with the Engineers and Estimators preparing a bid or pre-construction planning for a project, or you might be assigned to a construction site and work under an Engineer or Superintendant. Students may be assigned an internship in any of the following areas:

Intern
"I have currently completed three summer internships with Kiewit Energy Canada. My work terms have ranged from a Fabrication Engineer at the Module Yard located in Edmonton, a Field Engineer in Fort McMurray working on a SAGD (Steam Assisted Gravity Drainage) project and finally working in Calgary on a FEEP (Front End Execution Planning) for a major oil sands project. My internships with Kiewit Energy Canada have given me a broad range of experience and unlimited responsibility. Each one of my work terms has been fast paced, high energy and exciting. No matter what job I was working on, my co-workers and supervisor were always easy to get along with and highly approachable. One thing I have learned while working with Kiewit Energy is that you’re not choosing a job, you’re choosing a career."-J.O.
Intern to New Grad
"The best part of Kiewit’s Intern program is that you are given the same responsibilities as any other employee. For 16 months, I was a Piping Field Engineer at the Edmonton Module Yard, as well as 2 seperate phases of a SAGD project near Fort McMurray. When I returned to school, many coworkers were surprised to learn that I was an intern. During these work terms, I worked closely with Superintendents, their crews and learned how to schedule their work and most importantly, my time. Working as an intern prepared me for full time work by showing me exactly what to expect when I graduated. When I returned to work full time with Kiewit, I was already comfortable with my job responsibilities, I had a solid background in construction, and I was able to work with many of the friends that I had made during the summers."-B.L.
