The stadium will become the new home for the NCAA Men’s College World Series for at least the next 25 years. The new stadium, being constructed by Kiewit Building Group, will offer 30 luxury suites, 2,500 club seats and general seating initially for 24,000, designed for easy expandability. The stadium will play host to numerous sporting events and entertainment opportunities throughout the year, including Creighton baseball, outdoor concerts and special events.
Kiewit Building Group was selected as the construction manager for the project. Due to be complete in spring 2011, the stadium will also include a central kitchen and commissary, club lounge, concession and vendor stands, clubhouses, press box and support facilities, as well as fan festival space and parking.
Key elements for the successful completion of the project include coordination with the city of Omaha’s Metropolitan Entertainment and Convention Authority (MECA), its vendors and suppliers that will service the facility during events, and televised sports media outlets that will internationally broadcast events from the stadium.
Funded through a combination of public and private finances, the project was developed on a fixed project budget and must be completed in time for the June 2011 College World Series. Kiewit Building Group was given the challenge of developing the iconic facility to meet not only the needs of the College World Series, but also the other multiple tenants scheduled to use the stadium.
