The Denver District specializes in construction projects as diverse as the geographical area it covers. Pursuing heavy civil and highway construction work, the district prides itself on delivering quality projects on-time or ahead of schedule.
The $1.28 billion T-REX Project is the largest transportation contract in Colorado history. Designed and built by a Kiewit-led joint venture, the project included improvements to I-25 and I-225 and construction of transit lines. Additional work involved reconstruction of interchanges and bridges, a new drainage system and improved pedestrian and bicycle access.
Beartooth Highway serves as a vital link to the western route of Yellowstone Park. A rain-on-snow event in mid-March 2005 caused the road to be heavily damaged. Under a $15.2 million design-build contract, Kiewit Western Co. completed reconstruction of 12 mi. of the highway in just 16 weeks.
Considered one of the largest design-build highway projects in Colorado history, the $191 million Northwest Parkway Toll Road opened to traffic on November 24, 2003, five weeks ahead of schedule. The project encompasses more than 9 mi. of new roadway alignment, and includes 26 bridges and three toll plazas.
With Albuquerque's population growing, the I-40/Coors Interchange could no longer accommodate the daily traffic volume. The design-build project to rebuild the heavily traveled roadway included the interchange reconstruction, eight new bridges, pedestrian and bicycle paths, retaining walls, utility relocations, drainage improvements, signage and lighting.
The $16.3 million Carlisle project involved reconstructing 6.4 mi. of I-40 from Lonoke to Carlisle, Arkansas. The work was completed 70 days ahead of schedule and included nearly 260,000 tons of asphalt, 180,000 sq. yd. of rubblizing concrete, and 76,000 ft. of edge drain
Nearly 2 mi. of I-25 and I-40 Interchange was reconstructed and expanded under this $221 million contract. As part of the project, fifty-five bridges were built including eight new precast segmental fly-over bridges, 33 new concrete girder bridges, four structural steel girder bridges, and 10 were rehabilitated.
