The Central District specializes in construction projects as diverse as the geographical area it covers. Pursuing heavy civil and highway construction work, the district prides itself on delivering quality projects on-time or ahead of schedule.

Huey P. Long Bridge - Kenner, LA
As the final contract of a series of four to upgrade the capacity of the existing bridge, Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development selected a Kiewit-led joint venture the $433 million project. The project will add an additional lane in each direction to the Huey P. Long Bridge along with 8-foot emergency shoulders.
IH-30 Tom Landry Highway - Dallas, TX
In February 2003, Gilbert Texas Construction, L.P. was selected to widen and reconstruct approximately 4.5 mi. of the existing IH-30 from east of Loop 12 to Sylvan Ave. to four new lanes each direction. This $98 million project also involves reconstructing 11 bridges and constructing four types of retaining walls.
Walter Scott, Jr. Energy Center Unit 3 - Council Bluffs, IA
A Kiewit-led joint venture was awarded the contract for the detailed design, procurement, construction, startup and testing of the dry lime flue gas desulfurization system and baghouse addition to an existing 690-megawatt coal-fired power plant. This retrofit is projected to reduce nitrogen oxide emissions by 67 percent and improve the plant’s efficiency by 2.75 percent.
Nebraska City Unit 2 Coal-Fired Power Plant - Nebraska City, NE
A Kiewit-led joint venture was awarded the contract to engineer, procure, construct, startup and test a 660-megawatt coal-fired power plant. The new plant at Nebraska City more than doubles the current power output at the original facility that was built in the 1970s.
OHare Runway 10C-28C - Chicago, IL
Grading, drainage and ductbank work are the primary elements of this $149 million project to construct a new south field runway at Chicago's O'Hare International Airport. This project is part of the airport’s modernization program to expand and improve its facilities.
OHare Runway 9L-27R Paving - Chicago, IL
As part of a modernization program at O'Hare International Airport, a Kiewit-led joint venture was awarded a $62 million project to construct Runway 9L-27R. The project includes constructing a full-length parallel taxiway and associated high-speed exit and crossover taxiways between the parallel taxiway and the runway.
