What kind of projects does Kiewit build?


We build highways, bridges, tunnels, airports and mass transit systems. We design and build waste-to-energy, hydroelectric and cogeneration facilities. We build dams, reservoirs, canals, tunnels, treatment plants, sewer outfalls, piers, marinas, off-shore platforms and industrial facilities. Through our subsidiary, Kiewit Building Group Inc., we construct additional structures including hotels, hospitals, office buildings, and educational and manufacturing facilities. How many projects does Kiewit build and what size are they?


We're awarded approximately 300 contracts a year. The average size of our projects is $15 million, although we have many projects that exceed $50 million and several in the billion-dollar range. Is Kiewit involved in businesses other than construction?


Yes. We're a leading coal mining company, operating mines in Montana, Wyoming and Texas. In addition, Kiewit Power Engineers, a Kiewit subsidiary, provides engineering and design services to the power industry.

How is Kiewit organized?


We provide construction services through individual business units we call “districts.” Our districts are located throughout North America and function as if they were independent construction companies.

Does Kiewit hire students for Internships and Co-ops?

What is Kiewit's dress code?


Nearly all our districts have a business casual dress code for those employees who work in the office. Field dress codes are intended to ensure a safe working environment. Typical business attire is required at some district offices and our Home Office.

Will I be required to relocate during my career?


As is customary in construction and many other project-oriented industries, many of our positions require relocation.

Does Kiewit have a retirement program?


Our Retirement Savings Plan has three components: employee 401(k) contribution, employer company contribution and employer company match. Salaried and non-manual hourly employees are eligible for this plan. Employees who are Kiewit stockholders are not eligible for the employer company match and the employer company contribution.

What is the starting salary for new employees?


Starting salaries are dependent on a number of variables, such as the position and your qualifications. Each district reviews its starting salaries annually through comparative studies and comparable recruiting sources.

How often can I expect my salary to be reviewed?


Employee salaries are typically reviewed annually. Individuals are rewarded based on their performance and contributions to the growth and productivity of the company.
